Pinerolo wins a thrilling first set against Milan (40-38) but then falls 1-3, successes also for Conegliano, Bergamo and Rome against Busto, Perugia and Talmassons

A crackling first day in Serie A1 Tigotà.

Starting with the spectacular first set at Pala Bus Company between Wash4Green Pinerolo and Numia Vero Volley Milano: a phantasmagorical 40-38 for the hosts, with 9 points from Sylla and 8 apiece for Daalderop and Sorokaite. After the blow suffered, however, coach Lavarini’s girls do not discount anymore and close the practice 1-3 with the Dutch MVP with 19 points. Great debut for the pinellas, led by Smarzek’s 23 points and Sorokaite’s 18.

But the day’s excitement did not stop in Pinerolo. Great expectations, fully met, in the derby between Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri ’76 and Igor Gorgonzola Novara. Fireworks in the 3-2 with which coach Bregoli’s girls imposed themselves on their cousins, after always being ahead in the cons of sets. Good return to Serie A for Gicquel, scoring 18 points, while she picked up where American Skinner, 17 points and MVP title, had finished. Coach Bernardi’s 44 points equally divided by the Tolok-Ishikawa pair were not enough. But the one at PalaFenera is not the only 3-2 win of the day: a great victory by Il Bisonte Firenze, down 1-2, against Megabox Ond. Savio Vallefoglia. Lots of good news for rookie coach Bendandi: from Malual’s 21 points to Butigan’s 15 with 8 walls, to the MVP award for a convincing Nervini, solid in reception and precise in attack (15 points). Only one point for the green-and-whites, who can however be satisfied with the performance of the two bands, Olympian Giovannini with 18 points and American Lee with 19.

An uphill start for Smi Roma Volleyball, which, however, under 0-1 against Cda Volley Talmassons FVG responded convincingly by taking home the three points. Super Zannoni, MVP from the Palazzetto dello Sport, and a good game by Orvosova, author of 27 points, while Ukrainian Kraiduba stopped at 21 for the Friulian women. The other newly promoted team from Serie A2, Bartoccini-Mc Restauri Perugia, does not smile either, falling at home 0-3 against Bergamo. Coach Giovi’s team always missed in the final sets, while Coach Parisi can be happy with his side: 12 points for captain Mlejnkova, 11 for Piani and 10 for Montalvo.

In the last match of the day, big celebration at the Palaverde for Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano, which makes it 3-0 against Eurotek Uyba Busto Arsizio in a Sunday of celebrations for the Olympic medalists, for coach Santarelli and Katja Eckl, best A1 coach and best Under 21 in Serie A2 last season, and for the 2023-24 poker strengthened by last week’s Supercup success. Never in question was the match: MVP Lanier (13 points) and the usual Haak (15) soon bent the butterflies’ resistance, with Obossa best on the scoreboard (13).
